Public Art Committee Program

Zulkifl Mujahid addressing at Public Art Committee on July 26, 2023

Good evening. My name is Zulkifl and I stand before you not as a politician or political candidate I am here on behalf of the Public Art Committee of FortMcMurray WoodBuffalo Region to celebrate the vibrant tapestry of our community and shed light on an essential aspect that enriches our everyday lives – public art.
Public art can act as an agent of change, bring awareness to pertinent issues, encourage dialogue, and promote social cohesion. It can help us remember our history, embrace our cultural diversity, and envision a brighter future together.
Public art is not just an embellishment of our surroundings; it is the heart and soul of our community fabric, weaving together diverse perspectives, emotions, and ideas. One brilliant example of this is the Street Panner Program. This program not only beautifies our streets but also serves as a platform for local artists to showcase their talents to a broader audience turning our urban landscape into a living art gallery. It not only uplifts the spirits of the passersby but also empowers our artists, recognizing their valuable role in our community.

Throughout the growth of this program, the number of submissions has significantly increased and, while not all artworks can be produced as banners, the Committee believes that these heartfelt works of art deserve to be celebrated! With 82 artworks adorning the walls of the Kirshner Family Community Art Gallery, you can see the theme of HOME resonates in every brushstroke, every colour choice, and every composition. These artists pour their heart and soul into their work with the goal of transforming everyday objects into captivating masterpieces. Let us put our hands together for all the contributing artists who share their deep connection to HOME through these stunning works of art!

In conclusion, as we immerse ourselves in the captivating beauty of their creations, let us recognize and appreciate the immense importance of public art in shaping our collective identity and inspiring generations to come.
On behalf of the Public Art Committee, thank you and have a wonderful evening.
