STATEMENT OF SUPPORT AND GRATITUDE TO TREATY 8 FIRST NATIONS
To the courageous leaders and people of the Treaty 8 First Nations:
Thank you.
Your powerful response to Danielle Smith’s reckless and divisive push for Alberta’s separation is not only a defense of your sacred Treaty rights—it is a defense of the very #legal and moral fabric that holds this #country together. You have once again reminded all #Canadians that these #lands were never given, never #sold, and never surrendered—and certainly not to a #provincial government drunk on power and blind to #history.
Smith’s flirtation with #separatism is more than political theatre; it is a dangerous delusion that disrespects the Constitution, international law, and above all, the Treaties that predate her government and will outlast it. Her audacity to trample over Treaty obligations—while standing on lands never ceded to Alberta—is not just ignorant, it’s humiliating to every Albertan who believes in justice, legality, and the rule of law.
While Smith clings to fantasies of provincial grandeur, the Treaty 8 Nations stand grounded in truth, law, and dignity. You are the rightful stewards of these territories, and your voices carry the weight of history, international recognition, and moral clarity.
Your reminder that #Alberta “must leave with what it came with” is not just a statement—it is a wake-up call. Premier Smith came with ideology, not land; with slogans, not sovereignty. And if she continues down this path, she will leave with nothing but #shame and a legacy of failure.
To #Treaty8#FirstNations: your #defense of Treaty is not just for your people—it is for all people who believe in justice, rights, and the Honour of the #Crown. You are standing where #leadership truly matters, while others cower behind populism and #political#stunts.
We stand with you. We thank you. And we will not allow this #Premier to rewrite history, erase law, or undermine the #sacredness of #Treaty.
