By failing to address or condemn Yao’s harmful rhetoric, municipal elected head risks being seen as complicit in this disparagement of a project designed to support some of our community’s most vulnerable members. RMWB refusal to #publicly challenge these comments suggests an unsettling alignment with Yao’s unfounded accusations.Let it be clear: if #RMWB continues to avoid taking a stand, it will be fair to conclude that he shares Yao’s perspective—that Tawâw Housing is a facility tied to “drug-related activity.” This failure of leadership is unacceptable and undermines the principles of inclusion and reconciliation that #FortMcMurray desperately needs.The collaboration—or at the very least, the silence—between Yao and elected leader of #municipality of #WoodBuffalo reveals a disturbing disregard for the Indigenous community and the urgent #social issues this project aims to address.
